IV vs. IIII

Many clocks (and watches) today use the Roman numeral IIII for the number 4 instead if IV.  Which is right?  Both are...at least, they are today.  Why?  The reasons are probably both religious and secular.

One theory is that it was considered blasphemous to use "IV" because it was the beginning of the god Jupiter's name and would denigrate the name of a god to that of a mere number.  Another theory is that "IIII" is more aesthetically pleasing than the "IV" because of its symmetry with the number "VIII" on a clock face.

So if you see "IIII" instead of "IV" as the number 4 on a clock or watch, don't think it's an error.  It's just history.

Illumination

Many of our clocks are illuminated.  That is, they light up to make it easier to tell time at any time in any setting ... and to augment and highlight the beauty of the clock's design, the incomparable styling, and the wondrous finish and patina of your clock.  Every illuminated Arroyo Craftsman clock includes a light bulb and a power cord with an on/off switch.

Batteries

Arroyo Craftsman clocks operate on a single AA battery (battery not included.) (Illuminated clocks require additional 110/120 volt AC power via the plug-in cord.)
